1. Practical Life
"Free me from the adult’s interference"
In alike home atmosphere of kindness, community, and respect, in a prepared
environment and our material sized for the child’s hand, will enable him to
master the skills of every day life, such as shoe tying, dressing themselves,
cleaning, taking care of their environment etc. Giving the child a meaningful
degree of independence and self-discipline.
2. Sensorial
"Hand instrument of man's intelligence"
Senses are points of contact with the environment.
They are essential roots for the child to develop. Listening does not make a
man. The prepared environment, the scientific material and the repetition of
activities will assist the child in the development of his senses.
3. Language 2.5 to 6
"Writing is a key to a double gain"
"If you want to teach a child a second language, you must begin before the
age of 6."
Maria Montessori, Discovering Minds
Explosion into reading. Writing followed by reading. Through phonetic material
and sensorial activities the child will learn vocabulary. After he is taught the
sound of a letter by touching and seeing the symbol, he sends the image to his
brain, later the child gets to know that words are his. The child starts to
analyze the words, and then he realizes that to understand them is to use them
and to use them is to belong to the world. When the child shows he is ready he
will start building single words phonetically. At the age of five (or five and a
half), most of the time, the child will start reading without even noticing.
4. Mathematics
"From the concrete to the abstract"
The child will be introduced to numbers from 1 – 9, then from 0 to 10.
The child will learn the importance of the zero, units and tens. With the use of
Math Montessori apparatus the child will be able to explore manually, and more
importantly, see and understand the logic behind each equation. After this the
child will be introduced to advanced exercises such as adding, subtracting and
division and multiplication.
5. Culture
The child will develop global perspective including history and world cultures.
Also he will be emerged to geography, botany, zoology, famous painters and
classical music masterpieces.
